Guide for Authors

Manuscript Submission

To speed up the refereeing and publication processes, all transactions and communications between the journal and the authors will be done electronically. All manuscripts should be in PDF format and no page limit. Both long and short high-quality papers are very welcome. Papers can be submitted at this site: https://ef.msp.org/submit_new.php?j=jmlearn.

All received submissions will be acknowledged.

Review Process

Papers will first be evaluated by editorial board before sent for review.

Review period: the review process will be thorough, responsive, and quick. It usually takes less than 3 months from the first message.

Submission of Accepted Manuscripts

If a paper is accepted, the editorial office will ask the authors to send in the electronic files (the (La)TeX files of the manuscript, the electronic files of the artwork and a pdf file of the whole paper) of the accepted paper by e-mail.

Upon receipt by the Editorial Office the files will be used for production purposes unless the authors are notified that their paper will be typeset and printed in the traditional manner.

Submission Policy and Copyright

Submission of a manuscript implies that the paper is original and has not been submitted elsewhere. We also consider submissions that expands upon previously published papers at workshops or conferences. These submissions should have significant new results compared with the previous publications. In such cases, the authors should cite the previous publications, and explain clearly in the cover letter of the JML submission the key differences with their previous work. The authors should also attach the previous publication for reference. We ultimately leave the decision about whether an extension is significant enough up to the handling editors and reviewers.

It is required that authors provide a Transfer of Copyright to the Publisher. The signed Consent to Publish gives the Publisher the Author(s)' permission to publish the Work. The signed Transfer of Copyright empowers the Publisher on behalf of the Author(s) to protect the Work and its image against any unauthorized use, and to properly authorize dissemination of the work. This includes printed publications, offprints, reprints, electronic files, licensed photocopies, microform editions, translations, and document delivery. It also covers secondary information sources such as abstracting, reviewing and indexing services, including converting the Work into machine-readable form, and storing it in electronic databases. The Editors will supply the necessary forms for this transfer.
